What grid fees are costing advisors

You may be all-too-aware of the grid fees your firm charges or you may now accept them as normal, but grid fees are an archaic practice that have been accepted as tradition. Every firm has a different rationale, and they only seem to grow over time - but we don’t believe they should be normal. 

The average advisor has a book of clients with about $14 million AUM (assets under management).

The typical fund will charge 2% - 1% for the fund and 1% for the advisor.

If a firm charges a 50% grid fee (50 basis points), that means the advisor gets the other 50 basis points - $70,000. 

That means this advisor would be losing out on $70,000 annually to grid fees. At HFI Private Wealth, there are no grid fees - this advisor could be making $140,000 with the same book of clients.

Where are your offices and can I work remotely?

Our head office is in Vancouver, but we have embraced a fully remote work environment so you can work from anywhere in Canada.

We believe work culture is important, especially at a small company. We get to know every person that joins HFI through frequent meetings. We’ve always got new initiatives on the go and share progress updates as well as issues we face.

We only charge "desk fees" for technology over and above what we use as standard in the firm. We aren’t here to make money off desk fees so we are simply passing along any additional costs of the software you end up using. We have made sure all the basics are no cost to get you started.

Can I get access to any private products? Can I get a new product added to the approved list?

Yes and yes. We have in-house funds that give you access to various private products and our investment committee will review potential investment opportunities at no cost.

Where are our offices located?
